So, I've been out of love with Target lately. We've been in there a couple of times in the last month, but mostly just to look at the $1 corner for birthday present things for some kiddos Dianna and Jarod know. The deals just haven't been as great as I would want. I was excited about the Crystal Light deal that they have going this week. The Pure Fitness water bottle style drink packets will be perfect for Disney. And I had a gift card that was burning a hole in my wallet. Here's how we did:

I left the house at 6:15 this morning -- yes, that's right, 6:15 AM on a Sunday morning -- so I could get to Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, and Target before getting the family to Sunday School at 9:00!

1st stop: Wal-Mart
Since I have a new-found aversion to Wal-Mart, I made this trip as short as I could. Is it just me, or is there no such thing as a short trip to Wal-Mart? Took me 30 minutes! They only had one cashier, and the line was pretty long.
I bought 3 newspapers, after inspecting them for a certain coupon. We didn't get the coupon I was hoping for, or I would have bought 9 today!

Not a huge success, I guess. The kids' clothes are for summer vacation (We always save their new season wardrobe for vacation, so these things are for summer/fall.) Dianna, especially, is needing more things. She has almost nothing for the summer. Maybe I should try consignment shopping or Mom-to-Mom sales. I haven't progressed that far in my smart shopping endeavors, but maybe it's time. $18 was spent on Special K, and I think that's about as cheap as I'll ever be able to find them -- $4.54 per 4-pack. I have almost enough of these shakes now to last me through the rest of the school year.
So, after the clothes and shakes, we only spent about $3 on the rest of the stuff. In spite of the big number on the receipt, I'm pleased with this trip.

A pet peeve:

Why doesn't Target allow the consumer to get the full value of the coupons? It bugs me that I lose the overage at Target. Wal-Mart allows the overage. grr. I could have paid closer to $4.35 if they allowed it. I don't get it because Target is going to turn around and submit the coupons to the manufacturers and be reimbursed for the full amount. It just really gets me that they are getting their money back, plus pennies each time. As if they needed another way to collect pennies. You know what? It's really okay, because free is free. I have all that stuff that I didn't have to pay for. And if it bothers me too much, I can just go over to Wal-Mart where it's not a problem.

Saturday Savings, 1/16 - Target

A happy trip to Target. The cashier ALMOST didn't give me the $.05 credit because I was using a reusable bag from Disney World instead of Target. She said to me, so sweetly, "Do you know: if you use a Target bag, you get $.05 off?" I was happy to nicely inform her that every shopping bag got that $.05 off. She acted surprised, said that they had been told not to give the nickle off for anything except Target bags, then scanned the $.05 coupon anyway. I've never had a cashier think that it was only Target bags that got the discount. I hope they don't change the policy to only-Target because I don't have any Target bags. :)

Saturday Savings, 1/9 - Target

Another good trip to Target. You'll notice that I often buy just an item or two, like this trip. I'm still too new to the smart shopping game to be able to walk in with my Target coupon policy (which every serious smart shopper/Target guest should print and carry), and walk out with a basket full of items for $.19. So, I play it safe and move slowly.

I needed eggs. Since I was already at Target, I just decided to get them there, even though I knew I wouldn't pay the cheapest price. They were marked $1.47, but scanned at $1.24 at the register. Still a bit more than Wal-Mart, but I'm happy that I didn't have to make a trip to any other store for just that one item.

I found another coupon (I misplaced it when I was cutting them out on Sunday) for the Electrosol Finish tabs. They are on special through today at Target for $3.49 for the 12-pack, with a bonus of 25% (or 3 tabs) more. My coupon was for $2.50. So, for $.99, I got 15 loads of dishwasher detergent.

I used a reusable bag, which I shamelessly do, even if I only have one or two items. I want that $.05 credit! After coupon, my total came to $2.44. I used my Target gift card that I got for buying 2 Axe gift sets a little while back. I had used the gift card recently for something else. I posted about using it; I just don't remember what it was for, now. Anyway, I paid with the card; I now have $.01 left! It's so cool to not have to pay anything in cash. :)

Sunday Savvy, 1/3 - Target

One last deal for today. This deal at Target is good all week.

Email Campaign #1

Another blogger I follow has a 5-a-day campaign in which she emails 5 companies daily, either giving a compliment or sharing a concern. Others have stated that they get lots of free stuff or coupons from companies this way. I'm not up to 5-a-day, but I have decided to email stores or companies when I feel the need.

#1 - I emailed Cole's to compliment the Texas Toast. I received a coupon for a free item and two coupons for $.30 off an item.

#2 - I emailed Krispy Kreme because we bought a dozen doughnuts and the glaze was different. I don't think I could call my message a complaint, but it wasn't a compliment, either. I was really just asking if Krispy Kreme changed their glaze recipe. I received an email back from them. Their message did not answer the question about the glaze, but it did state that they were sending me a coupon for a free dozen doughnuts in the mail. So, I'll have another opportunity to test that glaze.

#3 - I emailed Target with a concern about their coupon policy. I disagree with a point in the policy and wanted to share my concern. I heard back from them, but without resolving my concern. I really didn't expect them to change anything about the corporate policy because of one consumer's dispute, but I had to let them know. I get lots of survey invitations on Target receipts, so I share that same issue during each of my surveys.

#4 - I gave positive feedback to Five Guys (of Five Guys Burger and Fries), a fast food restaurant my family and I recently tried for the first time. We LOVED it and wanted the folks at Five Guys to know that we think they have a winning product.

I'm looking forward to contacting companies more often now that I know that it can be productive.

A couponing venture to Target today. I think that I didn't find as many things on sale or Price Cut as my experienced couponing counterparts, but I enjoyed the savings anyway. We used 2 reusable bags, so I got an additional $.10 off. :) What can I do with $.10, you ask? Nothing, really, until I keep going back over and over.

My only peeve is that the cashier would not take the coupon at face value. The coupon was for $1.00 off and she adjusted it to $.87 off since the candy was $.87. I don't get why I can't get an extra $.13 off when Mars/M&M's is going to reimburse Target for the $1.00 anyway. Did Target just make $.13 off of the manufacturer that was meant for the consumer? It feels that way from here, although I'll admit to just wanting that extra $.13 for myself. I'm a money-grubber-in-the-making, and I ain't 'shamed!
